The biggest mistake people make when choosing a bedroom rug size is not scaling the rug size correctly to the room and nearby furniture. Remember this guideline to help you scale the rug to the bed in particular: the rug should extend at least 2 feet past the sides and end of the bed. This will help you create visual balance with the size of the bed. It’s acceptable to have more than 2 feet of rug exposed on each side/end, but when you do so, avoid having the rug bump up against larger furniture. If you take the approach of centering your rug in the middle of the room, you will choose a size that provides a soft surface throughout the majority of the room while leaving some breathing room for larger furniture to stand alone.
