A wool rug can highlight your room’s decor by reinforcing the color palette, establishing the room’s tone, and fitting into your personal style. When you design a room, be sure to look at it as a whole--that way, you’ll naturally choose a rug that compliments your other decor and gives each piece a chance to shine.
WIth so many rug options out there, you may be wondering why to go with a wool area rug. Well, these rugs are a great choice for any home because of how durable and easy to clean they are. Plus, they come in lots of different designs, patterns, color palettes, and even pile heights. Whether you’re looking for a flat weave, a braided rug, or a shag one, you can find a wool rug that’s just right for you.
As you shop for your perfect rug, it’s important to consider some key topics.
Position: First, look at your room and decide where you want to place your rug. Each room is unique, but these general ideas will steer you in the right direction.
Living Room: Wool area rugs are often used to ground your main seating area. If that’s the case for you, center the rug in the middle of the space and have it in front of the seats, under their front legs, or further beneath the chairs.
Dining Room: For a balanced dining room, center your rug beneath your table. Be sure to leave an extra two or so feet of rug on each side/end so the chairs have plenty of room to move around.
Bedroom: If your bed is the main focal point of the room, accent it by laying a rug all the way under the bed or under the bottom two-thirds of it. However, if your bed is off to one side, try placing an area rug in the middle of the room itself or along the side of the bed.
Kitchen: 2x3 and 3x5 wool rugs are ideal for in front of kitchen sinks or stoves, but you can also use a wool runner rug to add comfort to those same areas and create a path in a narrow space.
Bathroom: Similar to kitchens, runners can be used to establish a path, but they can also be used to style a double vanity. Alternatively, 2x3 and 3x5 wool rugs are perfect for in front of tubs, showers, or sinks.
Shape/Size: After you know where you want to place the rug, you can choose the size and shape of your wool rug. Both of these aspects depend on the size of the room, the furniture near the rug, and if the rug will overlap with the furniture or not. If you need guidance in choosing a size, look at some of the popular options listed above or 4x6, 5x8, 8x10, and 9x12 rugs for larger spaces.
Pattern: Wool rugs come in many different designs and patterns, so no matter what style you fall into, you can find a rug that’s just right for you. From vintage to modern and anywhere in between, you can choose a design that fits in with one particular style or choose a pattern that blends interior design styles. Ultimately, your rug’s design should connect to the style of the rest of the room so everything feels cohesive.
Color: Finally, there’s color to consider. Since wool rugs are available in every interior design style, you’ll find a wide array of color palettes too. Blue, black, yellow, green, red, pink, and other hues are out there in different combinations, shades, and patterns, so you have your pick of color palette. Remember, your rug’s color palette should connect to the room’s overarching color scheme and reinforce all your other decor.
