Kids bedroom decor includes any part of the room that’s used in a decorative way. The obvious pieces of decor include items like wall art, knick knacks, rugs, and even bedding and furniture. 

What Kids Bedroom Decor Styles Should I Choose?

Boho- Boho is ideal for the kid who loves light and bright rooms with pops of bold colors. While boho style is often considered a more chic style, it can be made more masculine through pops of darker blues and greens. Common elements of Boho kids bedroom decor is using natural materials for baskets, chandeliers, and other decor. The pops of color and personality tend to show up in the smaller accessories and are shown with fun, aztec patterns in the rugs, curtains, bedding, and other fabrics. 

Coastal: Coastal decor in your kids bedroom isn’t limited to beachside houses; coastal is a popular style for kids bedroom decor because it helps create a calming and inviting space. The base colors tend to be neutral whites and creams, while accents are often soft blues and grays. This is another style that tends to include natural materials--specifically, wood and driftwood in the decor. Rugs tend to be made of natural materials, designed in the neutral color scheme, or show off those muted blues and greens. 

Farmhouse: Similar to coastal style, farmhouse decor for a kids farmhouse bedroom tends to be based in neutral colors and create a cozy, homey feeling. Natural woods are often used, and then the accents tend to be muted colors with some distressing to them. Buffalo plaid is a very common pattern, and you’ll often see boys’ farmhouse bedrooms include it, since it can come across as both mascunline and approachable. In girls’ rooms, you’ll see lighter colors like blues and yellows as the accent colors.

Modern or Contemporary: These styles highlight simplicity and clean-cut lines. Modern decor tends to limit its color palette with black, white, and one or two accent pieces, while modern adds in a bit more color with its accessories. Geometric shapes are commonplace in wall decor, rugs, fabrics, and so on. These styles are flexible enough that they can work with any age. 

What Colors Work With Kids Bedroom Decor?

The colors will vary depending on which style you choose, but with just about all of these styles, you start off with the room fairly neutral with its wall colors and flooring. Out of all the styles listed above, Boho tends to use the most vibrant colors, while coastal and farmhouse tend to use more muted tones. Modern and contemporary design find a happy medium with colors that are darker and richer. At the end of the day, the decor is a way to show off your child’s personality and style, so think about what colors reflect their personality and use those as decor in your kids bedroom.
