Whenever you look at any room of the house, you always make sure that it’s functional and pretty. The bathroom may not have the same functionality as a dining room or living room, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t have style and functionality just like those rooms. Adding in bathroom decor is a great opportunity to add in your personal style and create an intentionally stylized space.
What Bathroom Decor Styles Should I Choose?
The good news is, whatever design style you have in the rest of your house can easily be carried into the bathroom. Modern farmhouse style is often seen in bathrooms with a black and white color scheme and shiplap, but there are plenty of other styles out there like modern design and traditional.
When considering what style to use in your bathroom, think about what style the rest of your home is and see how you can carry that style into the bathroom with color scheme, tilework, and accessories.
What Accessories Should Every Bathroom Have?
Mirror- It may be self explanatory, but how you decorate with a mirror is another matter entirely. Having an upright floor mirror is an opportunity to add form and function, but even mirrors hanging on a wall can be stylized in a lot of different ways. Whether you go with a framed round mirror, an unframed rectangular one, or even something more eclectic, a mirror is a must-have for any bathroom.
Lighting- Good lighting is essential for putting on make-up, grooming, and getting ready for the day. Pendant lighting on either side of the mirror can be both pretty and purposeful, but no matter which way you light up the room, having some sort of strategic lighting makes light fixtures a must-have bathroom accessory.
Rugs- From a practical standpoint, rugs are handy to stand on right after getting out of the bath so you don’t slip and fall. Stylistically, they create designated spaces and can set the entire tone of the space.
Soap Dispensers- Obviously soap is a must, but it’s also an opportunity for you to be hygienic with style. Choose a styled soap pump for your bathroom decor and your aesthetic will be improved immensely.
Hand towels- Once again, you’ll want your guests (and family) to wash their hands properly, and then after they’re squeaky clean, you want them to dry their hands so they’re not dripping everywhere! Hand towels don’t just have to be functional though; they can also be bathroom decor that’s picked out to fit your color scheme and style.
Wall Art- Art’s purpose is to exist and be appreciated. Art can have a home in any room of the house, even a bathroom. Wall art is as versatile as it is unique, and whichever wall art you choose, it can reflect your personal style and bring the house’s overall design into every facet of the house.
Knick Knacks- Yes, knick knacks and smaller accents can easily be turned into bathroom accessories. You can place them on your vanity or on any shelving you have in the room to instantly add personality.
What Colors Should I Add To My Bathroom?
Bathrooms with recent renovations are often done in a neutral color palette with whites, beiges, and grays as the primary colors. Neutral palettes like these are a perfect chance for you to add in your favorite color(s). Here are just a few ideas based on popular design styles.
Farmhouse/Modern- Both of these design styles work well with earthy greenery or green colors. Adding in a live plant (or even a faux one) is a nice way to fit into modern and farmhouse styles, bring in a new color, and add texture to the bathroom.
Traditional- Traditional style works with rich colors such as crimsons, greens, blues, and golds. Using these as accent colors rather than the main colors helps create a traditional style without making the space too dark or busy.
Boho- Boho is yet another popular style that loves natural plant life and greenery, but it also uses bold reds, teals, and earth tones.
Coastal/Nautical- When creating a coastal space, you’ll want to work with muted blues, greens, and beiges. All the colors that harken back to the ocean, sand, and summer days are welcome in a coastal design.
There are plenty of design styles out there that play well with a neutral palette and accent colors, so do your research to find which style you love most and see how you can incorporate it not only into your bathroom, but other areas of the house too.
