Decorating With a Cloud Area Rug

When you’re decorating with a cloud rug, you have the choice of how bold or subtle you want to go with the theming. Some cloud area rugs will showcase hyper realistic clouds and skies while others will use more abstract imagery to capture the spirit of clouds without using their picture directly. Choosing Which Cloud Area Rug is Right for You

Position: Your first step should be to look at your room’s layout and where to fit a rug within that space. Each room is unique, so take these ideas as starting points. 

Living Room: The most common way to add a living room rug is to center it within your main seating area. When you do so, you have the option of placing the rug in front of the chairs, under their front legs, or further under the chairs. To make a smaller statement (or work with a cloud shaped rug), use a rug in another corner of the room to establish a smaller seating area. 

Dining Room: To add a cloud area rug to your dining room, center it beneath the table. Leave about two or three feet of excess on each side so the chairs can be comfortably pushed in and out. 

Bedroom: If your bed is a central focal point, layer your rug beneath the bed by placing it all the way under the bed, under the bottom two-thirds of it, or closer to the foot of the bed. If your bed is off to one side or against a wall, place a cloud rug either right beside the bed or in the middle of the bedroom itself. 

Kitchen/Bathroom: Both of these rooms benefit from smaller cloud area rugs in front of any sinks. However, in the bathroom you can also use 2x3 or 3x5 rugs by a tub or shower. Runners also work in both rooms and are great for establishing narrow pathways. 

Shape/Size: Once the layout’s decided, finalize the size and shape of your rug. Obviously one common application of cloud rugs is the unique shapes you can work with, but whether you’re using a cloud shaped rug or a more standard shape that uses cloud designs, it’s vital to think through both shape and size to ensure the rug is to scale and balanced with the rest of the room visually. 

Pattern: Pattern is truly the area you have a tone of freedom with. You’ll find some rugs use true, picturesque imagery while others will be more abstract, modern, faint, or some other interpretation of clouds. The key in choosing a pattern is to see how it will balance with the room, furniture, and other decor to make sure it won’t be too bold or too subtle.

Color: Finally, you need to consider the color of your cloud area rug. Even common colors like grey, beige, blue, pink, white, and others each come in a variety of shades that convey their own unique tones. Your rug’s color palette should reinforce the scheme of the rest of the room and set the proper tone to express your personal style.
