How a Bee Rug Can Highlight Your Room Decor

A bee rug can highlight your room’s decor by adding in a subtle (or not so subtle) motif that can carry throughout your other decor. Even if you don’t have bees elsewhere in the decor, having a rug design with bees on it can be a unique way to accent a room that includes other natural decor or a general nature theme.

When you’re decorating with a bee rug, you’re not limited to one particular look or style. In fact, bee rugs can fit into homes that are country styled, vintage, or even modern! All sorts of people love the outdoors and bumble bees, so it makes sense that there’d be a variety of patterns and styles to choose from. 

Choosing Which Bee Rug is Right for You

As you look for your perfect bee rug, consider these key areas to help you narrow your search and find the rug that speaks to you. 

Position: First, determine where you want to place your rug in the room’s layout. There are many ways to go about this, but here are some general guidelines. 

Living Room: If you want your rug to make a statement, center it with your main seating area. Depending on how large the living room is, you may place the rug directly in front of the seats, under their front legs, or all the way under them. For a more subtle look, use a small bee rug elsewhere to establish a reading nook or separate area. 

Dining Room: Whenever you place a rug in the dining room, make sure it’s both practical and stylish. Place it centered beneath your dining room table and leave at least two feet of excess on the sides and ends for the chairs. 

Bedroom: Stylize your bedroom with a bee area rug by centering it beneath your bed (all the way under the bed, under the bottom two-thirds of it, or in whatever position works best in your room). 

Kitchen: Bee rugs can be an adorable addition to kitchens, and placement wise, you can put a 2x3 or 3x5 bee rug in front of a sink or stove. Bee runner rugs are also an option for galley kitchens or kitchens with an island. 

Bathroom: Like the kitchen, you can place a small rug in front of a sink, but you can also put them next to a tub or shower. Runners also fit well in front of a double vanity. 

Outdoors: Finally, you can add your style outside by decorating outdoor spaces with a bee rug. You can use one as a simple doormat, but you can also place large area rugs by your outdoor seating or under your outdoor dining table. 

Pattern: Bee area rugs come in a variety of styles, and with that, there are patterns that each convey their own tone. Some patterns may use many bees, while others show off a lone honey bee. Others may have bees as a minor point in the rug’s overall design. Regardless of how bold or how subtle you want to be, there’s a pattern out there that is right for your idea and style.

Color: The colors in your bee rug are crucial in deciding the rug’s style and tone. In rugs that fit into a country style, light blue, yellow, and green might be the complementary colors. Even then, richer yellows may be used in vintage bee rugs. The key in determining the rug’s style is to see what tone the colors strike and make sure that tone connects to your style and existing color palette.
