Rug Size Guides
Pets are a delight to have around the home, but sometimes accidents happen. When they happen on the rug, your immediate response may be despair that your rug will never recover from the damage. However, there are many ways to remove recent and set-in stains from pets.
Removing recent stains from pet accidents is far easier than removing older stains, since the urine has not had the chance to attach to all the rug fibers in the area. Using sprays and other products from stores can help remove the stain, but home solutions can also be made in a pinch. Some solutions have been listed and detailed below in our full guide of how to remove dog pee from the rug and our guide to cleaning specific rug materials.
Set-in stains are more difficult to clean, since they have time to cling to the rug’s fibers. Even so, there are ways to clean set-in pet stains. If you are trying to treat a urine stain long after the fact, consider using this solution: Pouring 1/4 to 1/2 cup of household strength (3 percent) hydrogen peroxide over the stain. Allow this solution to set for 3 to 5 minutes and then scrub the area. You may use a sponge, rag, toothbrush, or other bristled brush to thoroughly clean the area. If the stain is resistant to recommended cleaning products and solutions, you may want to call a professional to treat the rug’s stain.
If the accident happened very recently, then following these steps will help you quickly and easily remove the dog pee before it has the opportunity to cause a deep, lingering stain.

If store products are not removing the dog pee from your jute rug, a solution of 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1/2 cup water is the best solution. Follow the steps detailed above for cleaning dog pee out of the rug and you will be able to remove recent stains easily.
Like other rugs, you should plot excess liquid off the rug before starting the cleaning process. With sisal rugs, we specifically recommend a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and equal parts water to dab the area and clean the urine and remove the smell.
Machine washable area rugs are easy to clean as they can be washed in a washer, but it is still important to pre-treat the stain before using the machine washer. This pre-treatment will help aggravate the stain and allow the washing machine to do a more thorough job cleaning it. This applies even to older stains, since the treatment can help loosen the stain and create an easier task for the washing machine. For these reasons, it is best to treat the stain according to the instructions above before washing your rug in the washer.
Pet accidents are never pleasant, but fortunately, they do not have to destroy the room’s accents and rugs. With these care instructions, you may confidently treat recent and old stains from dog pee and present a clean, beautiful rug in your home once again.
