Lodge decor is all about creating a mountainous, rugged vibe of a home withdrawn in the mountains. Lodge style creates spaces that are a natural and warm retreat from the cold, outside world.
Wood and Stone- Lodge style homes often highlight natural materials as their core construction. Wood walls and ceilings are extremely common and are often darker, richer wood tones. Fireplaces are sometimes surrounded in stonework as another way to highlight man-made construction.
Colors and Pattern- Brown and tan are often the base colors for lodge home decor and furniture, but the accents can also be rich tones. Buffalo plaid fabrics in the pillows, blankets, or rugs add in a lumberjack vibe. Aztec patterns also fit well into lodges, since they add in different visual interest.
Rugs- We already mentioned how buffalo plaid can be a good rug pattern, but that’s not the only way a rug can fit into a lodge home. You can choose rugs with aztec patterns, neutral tones, or earthy tones. Animal hide rugs are another stylish way to add in that warm texture and highlight the rugged woodsiness of lodge home decor.
Woodsy References- Whether you’re a hunter or not, lodge decor tends to highlight mountainous animals and hunting. Mounted deer heads are common with hunting lodge decor, though not necessary for all lodge decor. Antler chandeliers are another option if you’re leaning fully into lodge decor. If you don’t want to display animals in the living room decor, then add in paintings and artwork that incorporates the animals, landscape, and other woodsy elements.
To fit in with more traditional lodge styles, rich wood tones are often the primary colors, and then tans and browns come in through the furniture and accents. However, if you’re looking to create a more modern lodge that fits in more with a light and bright color scheme, white walls and natural woods are fine. As for lodge decor, you’ll typically find items in that neutral color scheme as well as forest greens and earthy reds.
