A tropical green rug can highlight your room’s decor by contributing to the room’s overarching theme, color palette, and style. Since green tropical rugs tend to highlight palm leaves, jungle plants, and other tropical imagery, going with one of these rugs is an excellent way to solidify your theme and bounce off of any other tropical decor you have around the room.
You may think that searching for a tropical green rug will only give you one or two choices of rugs, but that’s far from the truth. There are so many different designs available, as well as different shades of green and color palettes. Whether you’re looking for a bold jungle rug or something more subtle, there’s a tropical green area rug out there that’s just right for you.
As you shop for your ideal rug, consider these crucial areas to help you narrow your search.
Position: First, determine where exactly you want to place your tropical green rug. There are many ways to go about it, so take these ideas as guidelines to get you started.
Living Room: If you’re looking to add that tropical style to your living room, you may center a large green tropical area rug with your main seating. Aside from that, you can even use a smaller tropical rug elsewhere to set up a small reading nook or other space.
Bedroom: One of the most common layouts with bedroom rugs is to center it beneath the bed and place it either all the way under the bed or under the bottom two-thirds of it. If your bed is off to one side, you can center a large area rug in the middle of the room or place a green tropical runner rug along one side of the bed.
Dining Room: When you’re looking to position a dining room rug, you’ll likely center it beneath the table. Be sure to leave about two-three feet of excess rug on each side/end so the chairs fit comfortably on the rug.
Kitchen: You can use a 2x3 or 3x5 tropical green rug in front of your sink or anywhere else you tend to be stationary. In kitchens with an island or galley kitchens, you may even benefit from a green tropical runner rug centered with the sink.
Bathroom: Similar to the kitchen, you can use those smaller rugs by the sink, but they also fit well by tubs and showers. Runners also work along a double vanity or along a narrow pathway into the bathroom.
Outdoors: There’s no need to limit your style to inside your home’s four walls; tropical green rugs are available as outdoor rugs as well! For layout ideas, look at similar indoor spaces.
Size: Each room is unique, so when you’re choosing the size of your rug, don’t be afraid to break out the measuring tape and see how the rug fits in the space. Measure it out with your ideal layout in mind and determine what size area rug is best to go with your existing furniture and decor. After all, if a rug is too large or too small, it will make the room appear out of balance.
Pattern: When it comes to pattern, look at what imagery is being presented in the rug and how busy/diverse the pattern is. Some tropical rugs will use many images with different flowers, types of leaves, and colors, while others may limit themselves to just a handful of different shapes and images. Look at your other decor for inspiration of similar motifs and guidance on how busy your rug should be.
Color: Not all tropical green area rugs come in the exact same shades of green. Plus, the other colors combined with the green play a big role in determining the rug’s style and tone. When it’s combined with neutral hues like beige and cream, it may be a bit more subdued. However, colors like black, teal, red, and so on can really make a statement. At the end of the day, choose a color palette that compliments your other decor and sets the right mood.
