A red and blue oriental rug can highlight your room’s decor by reinforcing the color palette, setting the tone, and conveying your style. Your rug should work with your decor, not against it. That means that when you design a room, your rug can actually shine a spotlight on your wall art, poufs, pillows, and other decor as instrumental parts of the room’s grander design.
One of the greatest draws for red and blue oriental rugs is just how versatile they are. They can come in bright, traditional hues or be subdued and worn to fit into a vintage style. Oriental prints expand even past those two design styles and are excellent at elevating any home while still blending with your personal style.
With so many options out there, you may be wondering where to begin your search and how to find your perfect red and blue oriental area rug. Start off by considering these key topics and that will help you determine what you need practically and stylistically.
Position: It’s vital to set your room’s layout early on so that you can decide where to place your rug. These general ideas will get you started.
Living Room: Large red and blue oriental area rugs are often used to ground your main seating area. In those scenarios, you can set the rug in front of the seats, beneath their front legs, or further under the chairs. An alternate idea is to use a smaller rug elsewhere in the room to set up a spot for morning coffee, reading, or having intimate conversation.
Dining Room: For a balanced look, center your rug beneath your dining room table. Your rug should have an extra two feet on each side and end past the table so that the chairs have plenty of room to move in and out.
Bedroom: Oftentimes, rugs are centered directly beneath the bed and are all the way under it, under the bottom two-thirds of it, or closer to the foot of the bed. However, if your bed is off to one side of the room, try centering a red and blue oriental rug in the middle of the room or right along the side of the bed.
Kitchen: 2x3 and 3x5 red and blue oriental area rugs are often placed right in front of a kitchen sink or stove where you tend to stand still. To add more comfort/style to those same areas, use a runner rug there.
Bathroom: Similar to the kitchen, you can use a red and blue oriental runner rug to provide comfort and style to a walkway or center a double vanity. Use smaller rugs in front of sinks, tubs, or showers to accent those areas and add practicality.
Outdoors: Finally, you can use red and blue oriental outdoor rugs on your deck, patio, or porch. Refer back to similar indoor spaces for layout inspiration.
Shape/Size: Once your layout’s set, you can choose the size and shape of your rug. Both of these factors depend on how it’ll layer with the furniture and the size of the room, so be sure to look at your specific situation when choosing your rug’s size and shape. Some smaller sizes were recommended above, but for medium to large rugs, check out 5x8, 8x10, and 9x12 rugs.
Pattern: Red and blue oriental rugs come in various designs, such as central medallions, smaller imagery, or lines and curves. Look at your other decor for similar shapes and imagery that will tie into the rug. That will help your room feel cohesive and masterfully designed.
Color: Even though you’ve narrowed your search to red and blue oriental area rugs, you still have to consider which color you want to be more prominent, if they’ll be equally balanced, and what shades of red and blue you want. After all, navy blue is very different from sky blue in appearance and tone. Also consider the other colors of the rug and how they can work into your existing color palette and style; being intentional with color will help you in creating a unified design and expressing your personal style.
