Shag rugs are often associated with the '60s and '70s, but their history goes much farther back than that. The earliest records of shag-like carpets date back to the 300's B.C. in Turkey. While shag may have hit its peak popularity in the '60s, it's making a very strong comeback. Many are incorporating blue shag area rugs into their decor to add texture and an added feeling of cozy. Sink your feet into something soft and luxurious with a blue shag rug!
Shag Rugs: A Unique Breed Of Rug
Shag rugs are like no other kind of rug due to their extremely high pile and ability to be made from a wide variety of materials. The two most common materials that blue shag area rugs are made of are wool and synthetic fibers. Shag rugs are made in a variety of ways including machine-woven and hand-tufted.
While wool makes a wonderfully soft fiber for shag rugs, it is far more economical to make them from polyester and other synthetic materials. Polypropylene and polyester are more durable and easier to care for.
Styling A Shag Rug Room By Room
Shag rugs are unsuspectingly versatile and can fit into nearly any style of decor "? Bohemian, farmhouse, rustic, romantic, mid-century modern and more. Blue shag area rugs are inviting, almost calling for you to sit down and run your toes through the long, soft fibers.
Shag Rug Care: A Unique Rug With Unique Needs
It's best to place a blue shag area rug in places that are not high-traffic areas such as bedrooms and sitting areas. Entryways and hallways should be left to lower pile carpets. Shag rugs need a special kind of care to stay looking luxurious and plush. The long shag fibers can be damaged by cleaning with a vacuum that has a beater bar, or a rotating brush. Try removing dirt and dust by flipping the rug over and vacuuming the reverse side with a vacuum. If your rug looks like it needs more than basic dust removal, it's best to leave it to a professional rug cleaner.
