Not only does this cause chaos and frustration, but it also causes a safety risk as rugs may blow away into people or unstable furniture. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to anchor your rug and ensure that it will not blow away.
One of the most straightforward ways to keep a rug in place is to have it anchored with furniture. Outdoor couches, dining room tables, and heavier coffee tables can all keep your rug firmly grounded and set in place. Since the edges of the rug are caught in the wind most easily, it’s helpful to place the furniture strategically on the edges and corners of the rug.
Even with furniture anchoring the rug, you should take steps to weigh down your furniture. Bungee cords can keep furniture securely in place, but attaching weights to the furniture will also keep those pieces from flying away and further secure your rug.
The rug you choose can also be harder to blow away if it is a larger, heavier outdoor rug. Thicker outdoor rugs made of dense materials can provide more weight and stability. For example, wool and synthetic blends are naturally heavier, denser materials that will be harder to blow away. Aside from the rug’s materials, the larger the rug is, the more weight it will naturally have. That means that larger rugs are more difficult for the wind to pick up and move, especially if the rug is grounded by heavy furniture.
Rug tape and weights are two additional options that can easily keep your rug from blowing away. Rug tape is simply applied to the underside of the rug (typically on its corners and edges) to keep the rug in place and prevent bunching. Similarly, rug tape can be placed on the ground beneath the rug to keep it secured and safe from slipping and sliding. Whether you use rug tape or not, you may also consider adding weights like sandbags or rocks on the edges and corners of the rug. Once again, since those areas are most prone to being caught in the wind, these extra weights can give you assurance that your rug will remain safely in place.

Rug Grippers are a specific brand of tape that can be placed beneath mats and rugs to keep them secure in outdoor spaces. Like other rug tapes, this adhesive can be attached to the underside of the rug or the ground beneath the rug. When choosing a rug gripper, look for specific types that are ideal for wooden decks, concrete surfaces, or other types of decks. Also be sure that the gripper is approved for your rug’s material and will not risk damaging the rug itself.

Even though they may not be as effective as other methods, rug pads add the extra benefits of preventing wrinkling and bunching in the rug, which keeps your rug a safer accent and less of a tripping hazard. Rug pads also protect the flooring beneath the rug, keep the rug in place on wet surfaces, and add extra plushness to the rug.
Keeping rugs in place doesn’t have to be a hassle or expensive process; in fact, it is fairly easy to do with different tape options, various weights, and anchoring the rug with furniture. No matter which method(s) you choose for securing your rug, it is important to take some sort of action. By preemptively securing your rug, you will save yourself from trouble in the future and ensure that the rugs remain safe, comfortable accents for your home.

You can exchange your product for an identical product, without it affecting your warranty purchase. If you exchange your product for a different item, you will need to cancel your existing coverage and purchase a new plan, as coverage is tied to the specific product with which it was purchased.
