Fashion Translation: Dreamy, Beachy Whites

Bear with me on this one: If there is one home decor trend that I am absolutely loving right now it’s the infusion of crisp, bright white. I know, I know… how boring. But, truly, when used in a modern way, all white can feel like a breath of fresh air in your home and wardrobe. For clothing, I like to take cues from the Elizabeth and James 2017 Resort collection. The use of all white feels measured and balanced in a very modern way. I love how tiny hints of pattern peek through the sheers, while the head-to-toe white looks are natural and textural.

This collection is fantastic inspiration for your home. I suggest keeping things minimal and simple, almost like a 1990s Calvin Klein ad (also trending this summer…). White rugs can definitely be risky in the home, especially if you’re a pet owner like me or a parent. But boy, are they worth it! If you’ve ever wanted your home to feel like a resort or beach house, this is how you achieve that look. I will eternally be a fan of pattern and can’t keep my boho inclinations away from this trend! Instead, I’ve found balance with monochromatic and tonal patterned rugs in an assortment of great motifs: ornamental old world patterns, modern grids, and simplified geometrics. Take your pick and you’re guaranteed a gorgeous beach-inspired outcome!

Winter White Interiors

White might seem like the furthest color from your mind when it comes to winter decor, especially if there’s snow on the ground outside your windows. However, it has to be one of my favorite looks. Maybe it’s the clean slate appearance that comes to mind in the new year, or maybe it really is a desire to mimic nature. Here are a few tips for achieving this fresh and clean look.

Mixed Textures. Not only do different textures — like the wood, paper, and laminate look above — add dimension to a palette that could easily feel flat, they all add an element of coziness.

Lots of Light. Plenty of white in your home is already going to make it feel larger and lighter than before. But by throwing open all of the window shades (curtains, drapes, what have you) you’re going to add to the illusion of a big ‘ol space that’s oh so inviting on the coldest of days.

Black’s Best Friend. The combination is tried and true, so if all white isn’t your thing, don’t fret — just add some black (or grey, or tan, or whatever). The thing about a mostly white palette is that any hue you add to the mix in moderation is going to pop like WHOA.

Don’t Forget the Floor. Not only will a throw rugs keep your tootsies warm this winter, it will also add tons of that texture we talked about. Feel free to layer a few on top of one another for a super chic luxe look.
