Color Trends for Spring 2017

Hey everyone! We are Megan and Dawn, from E. Interiors and we are thrilled to be here, blogging today. We are a mother/daughter interior design team from both California and Arizona. Today we wanted to highlight the color trends we are seeing for Spring 2017 and bring you some inspiration for your space!

When it comes to sourcing and selecting rugs for a clients room, we focus on choosing the color scheme first. Once this decision is made, we move right to the rug as it sets the tone for the entire room and then we move on from there. It’s a lot harder to decorate a room and then try and find a rug to fit everything else you have going on – it’s better to start with the rug and then let everything fall into place from there.

This spring, according to Pantone, we are looking at bright blues and oranges and pinks with greens and lighter yellows. And then we have pale pink and tan mixed in there as well. We love a pop of color, so we aren’t complaining.

As you get the itch to spring clean and start fresh, keep these colors in mind and switch out your rug for a whole new look. Add a punch of color to brighten and liven up your space, you won’t regret it!

We are loving all of these selections and hope this helps you with your next design project.

Boho Rugs to Update Your Kitchen

The kitchen at my new house needs some major work, but until I’m able to do a full renovation, I’ve brainstormed ways to make it feel nicer without a massive undertaking. A fresh coat of paint and new hardware has worked some magic, but the floors are pretty hideous. I recently discovered that covering my 1970s linoleum with a bright and boho rug is the perfect solution! The bright color palette makes the room feel less dreary, while the pattern makes the room feel more interesting. I’m really glad I stumbled upon this trick and wanted to share a few of my favorite rugs that would be perfect in a boho kitchen:

Boho Kitchen Rugs

For the kitchen, I urge you to shop for a flat woven rug because it’s more durable for a high-traffic area. Also, if you’re clumsy when you cook (like me), a flat woven rug is way easier to keep clean! I also prefer the way a low-pile rug feels when I’m walking back and forth from the sink to the stove, something I do frequently as I cook.

A few favorites are:

Jaipur Rugs Luli Sanchez En Casa Sawyer rug

Neutral Boho Rugs

We painted over the existing mustard yellow with a warm, creamy white until we knew more about how the official kitchen renovation would look. Mostly, it was just to get rid of the old color! For now, I want the rug to make the statement in my kitchen and be the center of attention. That being said, there are some truly beautiful neutral options that are still boho in feel. These rugs are proof that you can go boho while maintaining a pared-down color palette.

Colorful Rugs to Design a Fun Kids’ Room

Colorful Kids Room

A fun bedroom is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give a child. Creating a space in which your kids can play, rest, and feel safe not only teaches them important lessons about self-worth and self-expression, it can be a terrific bonding activity for you both! Encourage your little ones to take ownership of their bedrooms by inviting them into the decorating process. They’ll not only exercise their imaginations but also practice sticking to a budget and committing to their choices.

Give your child permission to mix colors, patterns, and styles to his/her liking! A wide variety of kids’ room rugs offers the perfect opportunity to inject a vibrant sensibility. Try layering a few different rugs for a dynamic effect, and look for soft natural fibers to set the stage for long hours of playtime on the floor. With your gentle guidance and enthusiastic support, kids will grow up confident that their room is more than just a place for sleep; it’s an authentic statement about who they are!

5 Ways to Add Color to Your Space

Desire to Inspire

Let’s talk color. And how you can easily inject a dose of it into your home without being all over the place. In my years as a graphic designer and blogger, I’ve found that people reside in one of two camps when it comes down to it — all of the color or none of the color — rarely does someone seem to like just a little. We’re going to chat about those who live in the second camp.

One. A favorite way to amp up a home’s wow factor is adding an incredibly colored front door. This bright yellow sets such a warm and happy tone for entering the space, but it doesn’t have to be so extreme. A deep dark blue, or a poppy red would offer the same impact.

Two. A good rule of thumb is to go with neutral toned walls and rely on your furnishings and accessories to add interest. A great set of dining chairs in an unexpected color or a couch in an interesting pattern will really pop against white or grey walls.

Three. Art follows closely on the heels of this advice, and can be a much more affordable solution. And, because it’s cheaper you can change it up more often for a fresh look and feel every few seasons. Mix colors or stick to different styles in the same color palette for a major impact.

Four. An accent wall in a bright color — coral! turquoise! clementine! — could be just the fix you’re looking for. It’s a great experiment in adding color to your space that doesn’t require the involvement of painting the entire room. If you don’t like it, it can easily go back to what it was, but it just may be the jumping off point for adding more.

Five. One of the fastest color fixes are textiles. Throws, towels, and most definitely rugs. All of these things give you the ability to play around with color, texture, and pattern as well, which can add so much interest to a room. And again, they aren’t necessarily bank account breakers which is always welcome.
