5 Ways to Shake Up Your Bedroom

1. Paint the walls. Or maybe just one as an accent. Go with a really bold hue for impact, or go with something soothing to create a more relaxing space. Painting offers one of the biggest bangs for your buck, and when you’re ready for something new just cover it up and start over again.

2. Hang some new art. Go oversized and replace your headboard. Consider a themed gallery wall. Or play with offsetting one smaller piece for some quirky flair. Whatever your preference, some fresh eye candy is sure to make your bedroom feel updated and ready for the new year.

3. Bring in some plants. Add some hearty, oversized greenery behind the headboard or create a small tabled jungle in front of the window. Not only will a few plants add some great color during the dreary months, they’ll also help clean the air.

Eco Chic

4. Use a rug as your headboard. Textile art is having a huge moment right now, so if you want to ride the trend train consider this tip. Grab your favorite style of rug and attach it to the wall above your bed in place of a headboard, it will bring some texture into an unexpected area of your room. And when you’re ready to change things up yet again, you can simply place it back in its intended space – on the floor.

5. Layer rugs. If you’re feeling especially eclectic or boho – or maybe your floors are just extra cold this winter – layer floor rugs on top of one another for a slightly overlapping look. Mix texture, color, and pattern to create the perfect look for your space.

How to Create a Peaceful Bedroom Haven

bedroom2

Winter is the perfect time to get cozy at home and even hibernate a bit — and what better place to create a peaceful haven than in the bedroom? Imagine a space that is free of clutter, light and airy, with an inviting bed, soft lighting, and a just a few artful accessories. Imagine coming home after a long day, setting down your coat and bag, and coming into your peaceful bedroom to change into a comfy outfit and slippers.

To create a peaceful, soothing atmosphere in the bedroom, start with these 5 steps:

  1. Clear the clutter. A clutter-free space instantly feels more relaxing than one crammed with excess belongings, so make this your top priority!

  2. Limit the color palette. White, soft gray, and pale hues make the most peaceful palette, so try to limit your bedding and decor to a strict range.

  3. Layer in texture. Think nubby linen, fluffy sheepskins, woven wall hangings, luxe mohair, crisp cotton, and bare wood.

  4. Light up your life. Bedside lamps are a must, of course, but no peaceful bedroom haven would be complete without a few candles and a strand or two of white twinkle lights!

  5. Bring in something fresh. A potted plant, a vase of flowers — a bit of fresh greenery is cheerful, and cleans the air, to boot.

Bedroom Rugs

A lovely, serene bedroom deserves an equally lovely rug on the floor. And the wonderful thing about the bedroom is, it typically does not get the same amount of foot traffic as other rooms, making it the ideal place for a lighter color like soft pink, or even white!

So, what about you? What is your favorite way to make your bedroom feel peaceful and cozy?
