Farmhouse/Coastal- Farmhouse and coastal kitchens both create light and airy spaces that use neutral colors for their bases. While farmhouse style tends to work with a lot of black and white with the cabinets, backsplash, and other areas, coastal kitchen decor includes more cream, blue, and green. Modern- Modern kitchens are appealing to people who like simplicity and uncluttered spaces. Black and white are common colors that are often paired with light wood tones. Accents in modern kitchens tend to include plants, lights that serve both decoratively and functionally, and rugs.

What Accessories Should Every Kitchen Have?

Decorative cutting boards: These tend to add warm wood tones and texture to any kitchen.

Plants: Green plants are great at adding in color any time of year, but with country and farmhouse style, they're also an opportunity to add in muted blues, yellows, and other colors based on the season. 

Rugs: The cabinets and other details on the walls create visual interest there, so it makes sense to add in some beauty on the floor as well. Runners can fit well in front of a kitchen sink or to lead people into the kitchen from another area. If a runner doesn't fit, you can always use smaller 2x3 or 3x5 rugs to highlight your style and give you a soft surface to walk on.

Dish Towels: Functionally, dish towels are essential, so adding in towels that fit your style is a no brainer for creating the mood.

Miniature Art & Knick Knacks: Modern style doesn't include as many small decorative elements, but the others include smaller items of visual interest on countertops, islands, and open shelving. 

What Colors Should I Add To My Kitchen?

The colors vary depending on the tone you want to create, but neutrals are commonly used as base tones. Otherwise, you can always do upper cabinets in one color scheme and the bottom cabinets in another. Turquoise and navy blue are popular choices. As for accent colors, those can be just about any color you want based on the mood you want.
