Look No. 1: Modern Classic

This look is a little bit farmhouse (but not rustic) and a little bit modern (but not trendy). If you love traditional style, but want an update, this could be just the ticket. To get a modern classic look for your front porch or back patio, look for natural fibers and materials like stone, jute, and zinc, and keep the color palette calm with gray, black, white, and lots of greenery.

And if you feel inspired to add a bar cart or a hanging chair, that would fit right in here!

5 Ways to Refresh for Spring

desire to inspire

Spring is finally here! The weather has been unpredictable, but we seem to have finally turned a corner and you know what that means. Spring cleaning and making a few small changes to give your space a refresh.

1. Add Greenery

This is the first thing I do in my own home, and all it takes is a trip to the local nursery. But what’s maybe even more fun is gathering vessels to plant your new green babies in. Think outside the box and reach for flea market finds that you normally wouldn’t think of as planters. I like to group the majority of my greenery in the room with the best light, the dining room in my home, and then spread a few others throughout for a fresh vibe.

2. Rearrange Your Tables

It doesn’t get much easier than this! Swap out the lamps on your nightstands, rotate out the books on your coffee table, add some fresh flowers to both. It’s super easy to grab different things from around the house and made your tables feel bright and fresh and renewed.

3. DIY a Piece of Large Scale Art

Gather some inspiration and roll up your sleeves, it’s time to get busy creating. A statement piece hanging over your sofa or acting as an alternative headboard can change up the entire room for a fraction of the cost of buying one. Plus, when someone asks who the artist is you get to take all of the credit!

4. Add a Mirror

Want to make your space feel bigger or give it some new dimension? A mirror is your answer. Whether you want to change up the one over the bathroom sink or add a floor length piece to your foyer you won’t regret it.

5. Use a Bold Color

Maybe it’s not a brand new blue couch, but a brand new bold color is sure to make your space feel refreshed. A new pouf, floor rug, or piece of art would have the same effect for a smaller chunk of your pocketbook. The point is to create a new spot in the room for your eyes to gravitate towards.

Fashion Translation: Springtime Pastels

These spring months always feel so fresh after months and months of dark neutrals, mostly thanks to all of those gorgeous, powdery pastels we start to see in stores and fashion ads. Gone are the days of your grandmother’s pastels — instead these hues feel modern and vibrant, despite their toned down vibes. And there are two key colors for this spring: sky blue and lilac.

Sky Blue

When it comes to sky blue in the home, a light touch is a great approach lest you veer too… baby boy nursery. Instead, I like my pastel blues to be mixed with a tinged of grey so that they take on a silvery sheen of sorts. And, because blue is so easy to coordinate, I suggest keeping the pattern and texture of your rugs understated. This allows for easy mixing and matching within the home.

Lilac

Then there is lilac… my thoughts on this trend for the home are such: go big or go home. If you’re going to pack a purple punch within your home, you might as well go all out with the statement. I’m talking bohemian, global patterns, vibrant gradients, and abstract modern color combinations. While not for the faint of heart, this trend is a surefire way to freshen your home for spring.
