Boho Rugs to Update Your Kitchen

The kitchen at my new house needs some major work, but until I’m able to do a full renovation, I’ve brainstormed ways to make it feel nicer without a massive undertaking. A fresh coat of paint and new hardware has worked some magic, but the floors are pretty hideous. I recently discovered that covering my 1970s linoleum with a bright and boho rug is the perfect solution! The bright color palette makes the room feel less dreary, while the pattern makes the room feel more interesting. I’m really glad I stumbled upon this trick and wanted to share a few of my favorite rugs that would be perfect in a boho kitchen:

Boho Kitchen Rugs

For the kitchen, I urge you to shop for a flat woven rug because it’s more durable for a high-traffic area. Also, if you’re clumsy when you cook (like me), a flat woven rug is way easier to keep clean! I also prefer the way a low-pile rug feels when I’m walking back and forth from the sink to the stove, something I do frequently as I cook.

A few favorites are:

Jaipur Rugs Bedouin Amman rug

Kate Spade New York Nolita seaside stripe rug

Jaipur Rugs Luli Sanchez En Casa Sawyer rug

Safavieh Natural Kilim rug

Neutral Boho Rugs

We painted over the existing mustard yellow with a warm, creamy white until we knew more about how the official kitchen renovation would look. Mostly, it was just to get rid of the old color! For now, I want the rug to make the statement in my kitchen and be the center of attention. That being said, there are some truly beautiful neutral options that are still boho in feel. These rugs are proof that you can go boho while maintaining a pared-down color palette.

A few favorites:

Kaleen Nomad rug

Neutral Rugs To Keep Your Home Cozy

Owning a fixer upper is a big undertaking, especially when every room will eventually need to be renovated! My upcoming project will be the bedroom. I want the room to feel comfy and cozy, with a spa-like feel. I’ve decided to keep the color palette neutral and subdued to help achieve this look. The room also tends to get pretty chilly during the winter, so I’ve been researching ways to keep the room cozy without adding an unsightly space heater. One great way is to add a well-constructed rug to help insulate the room. There are some truly great options like a wool area rug or a silk area rug — here are my favorite styles in each category!

Cozy Neutral Rugs

Wool is a natural fibre that is fantastic for keeping your feet warm, especially in a bedroom. I love that a wool rug is traditional, but comes in a multitude of modern, updated formats as well. This fabrication also works especially well when it comes to embracing a neutral color palette. The wool fibers have a matte look, which helps the rug look more elevated.

A few of my favorite options:

Couristan Bromley Jakarta rug

Surya Anchorage rug

Surya Berkley rug

Surya Papyrus rug

Not many people realize this, but silk is another amazing material with insulation properties. Believe it or not, silk can keep you quite warm! I even have a silk-filled duvet for those cold winter nights. A silk rug will definitely be a higher price point, but the gorgeous, elevated sheen of the fiber cannot be ignored. The look is also a little bit more traditional, which encourages a fun mix-and-match look for styles.

A few of my favorite options:

Nourison beige rug

Nourison silk elements rug

Capel Williamsburg Linc rug

Fashion Translation: Bohemian Neutrals

Despite my love of color and pattern paired with my constant trend-awareness, my appreciation for neutrals runs deep. But so do my bohemian roots! As I settle into my first home, I find that I’m veering more toward the neutral boho look… and it’s starting to inspire my wardrobe choices, too! I often can be found in my uniform: a breezy, flowy, embellished white or ivory top with great jeans and my trusty vintage clogs. Despite the neutral color palette, there is still a touch of pattern, but also loads of texture!

Truly, this is the perfect look to incorporate into any home. There are just so many options! If you want to go glam, look for a neutral rug with a hint of metallic. Or keep things simple yet patternful by selecting a bohemian print for your rug. This boho-meets-neutral rugs pair easily with most furniture styles, making them a great option if you want to do a small overall of your space. I also find that this assortment can work in any room of the house. I’m personally partial to using neutral rugs in the bedroom for a restful, almost spa-like vibe.
