Perk Up Curb Appeal With A Front Door Refresh

Repainting an entire exterior is a huge undertaking — thankfully, that’s not the only way to boost your home’s curb appeal! Making your home the belle of the block is simple if you focus your energy where it counts most: the front door. Read on for 4 design ‘recipes’ to inspire your front door makeover, plus a roundup of cute doormats perfect for a summer refresh.

Cobalt door + citrus planters + copper details. This gracious southern home features a bold blue door, flanked by potted dwarf citrus trees and flowers. Warm metals like the copper lantern and brass door hardware echo the warmth of the brick underfoot, bringing this bold traditional look together.

Yellow door + wall planter + desert pottery. A can’t-miss-it lemon yellow door pops against the crisp white siding of this home. Instead of typical house numbers, consider using a wall planter with house numbers built in for a modern twist. Clay pots of cactus and a pair of aqua chairs add up to a quirky Southern California modern vibe.

Black door + barn light + cafe chair. If understated chic is what you’re after, this is the look for you. A glossy black door and matching black barn light are simple and timeless, while the folding cafe chair and hedgehog boot brush provide a fun twist.

Pink door + stenciled doormat + purple flowers. A pink door is certainly not for everyone (or every house!) but when it works, the pure joy can’t be denied. Keep things light with a painted porch floor, a pair of simple terracotta flower pots, and a fun doormat featuring a stenciled message.

Ready to start your front door makeover? The easiest way to begin is by replacing that ratty old doormat with something fresh and new! Here are six of my current favorites, including floral and lattice prints, a classic monogram, and even a cheeky lemon slice:

Father’s Day Gift Idea: Outdoor Makeover for Dad

From cheering on soccer games to being there with words of much-needed advice, Dads do so much. Think beyond the tie this year, and gift dad something he can really get excited about — a cool makeover for his outdoor space! Read on for 5 awesome backyard additions that work for any price point (and any dad).

Hang up a hammock. Just the sight of a hammock gently swaying in the breeze is relaxing. Give dad a hammock to call his own, stationed in a shady spot on the porch, or strung between two trees in the backyard. Be sure to include a small table nearby where he can set his drink, and at least one cushy pillow.

Rig up an outdoor bar. What could be cooler than a backyard bar where he can hang out with friends? If you want to go all-out (and have the budget for it) you could hire a pro to install a backyard wet bar, complete with built-in fridge to keep his beer frosty cold. But even on a shoestring budget, you can still put together a cool setup like the ones shown here: start with a freestanding bar or table (check Craigslist listings for affordable options), and deck it out with his favorite drinks, and a cool new set of glassware. Bonus points for adding a record player!

Grill something. Whether you upgrade his entire grill setup, or just add some cool new accessories (like a grill basket and quality tongs), optimizing his outdoor kitchen is always a hit. Want to spoil him? Spring for a new gas grill, or a specialty item like a pizza oven. Then help break it in by bringing over fixings for a backyard feast to cook and enjoy together.

Domino - fire

Light a fire. What dad isn’t just a little obsessed with fire? Treat him to a fire pit, and you can look forward to many summer nights gathered around the blaze! Freestanding wood-burning models tend to be the most affordable options, though some propane-burning fire pits are fairly budget-friendly and have the advantage of being portable. The big splurge would be on a custom built natural gas fire pit, surrounded by seating for a crowd. No matter which option you choose, don’t forget to throw in a pack of s’mores fixings!

Camille Styles - movie night

Host a backyard movie night. With digital projectors coming down in price, buying him his very own isn’t too far out of reach (especially if you make it a group gift). But even if you’re not ready to buy him his own projector, you can still make a night of outdoor movie magic by renting a digital projector (many office supply stores rent them, as well as some libraries) and rigging up a white sheet for the “screen”. Gather the whole family, pop some popcorn, cue up a family favorite on the laptop, and kick back for a Father’s Day movie night under the stars.

Creating A Cozy Outdoor Space

I don’t know about you, but I live in the Midwest. If the weather is above 45° and the snow has melted, Spring has sprung. I’ve been hunkered down for the last 4 months, and I want some sunshine on my legs and fresh breeze on my face…even if that fresh breeze is crisp. That’s what coffee and blankets are for. Needless to say, I’ve been begging my husband to pull out the patio furniture from storage.

Last year I started to decorate my outdoor space, but I stopped when it came to rugs. With so many beautiful patterns, shapes, and colors to choose from, how could I choose just one direction? This year is another story. I’ve got my inspiration set, and I’m ready to shop.

An outdoor rug will give your space that needed focal point. It really doesn’t matter if it’s small or large. What does matter is creating that cozy space…the space you want to relax in. By defining your space, you tie all the patio decor together. It’s an easy way to bring in some extra color, texture, and pattern. Plus, you are increasing your square footage. Outdoor rugs are just the foundation you need that will take your space from ho-hum to shazam!
